From the Bride

Chapin and I met nine years ago at The University of Massachusetts Dartmouth. We met on campus one night through a mutual friend and we have been inseparable ever since. He’s my best friend, my other half and the person that has always been there for me. There is no one else I could imagine being with all these years.

We chose to get married in southern Maine because of its beautiful coastline and the many memories Chapin and I have shared there over the years. Chapin has been visiting Wells, Maine with his family since he was a baby. When we first started dating Chapin took me to Wells beach and that’s when I fell in love with Maine’s coastline. Since then we have been traveling to Maine every summer. We love traveling together and experience different foods and cultures. We are so excited to be going to Japan for our honeymoon at the end of October.

I found my dress at Ruby Bridal in my home town of New Milford, Connecticut. It was a rainy day in December when I went to my one on one appointment, accompanied by mom and my three best friends. Ruby’s was in a cute old brick building, with lots of windows filling the room with natural light, perfect for trying on. Allison Eng, the owner, took into consideration my style and the venue as well as my budget, and many of the dress options she pulled were Lillian West. As it happened, the dress I chose was the second one I tried on! My friends and my Mom had a fantastic reaction when they saw me in it, and I knew I had to go with this one. My best friends: Crystal, Marisa, Laurie and I call ourselves The Fab Four. We share a truly special bond and love to travel together. In April, we went to Ireland as a kind of bachelorette trip to celebrate my getting married. It was a trip we still laugh and share memories about. After I chose my dress, to celebrate we all went out for lunch and a champagne toast at a restaurant in downtown New Milford.

I’m a graphic designer so I designed and hand-painted our wedding invitation suite. My Mom and I had ‘workshop’ nights when we would sit at her kitchen table and hand seal the Save the Date and Invitations with hot wax and assemble the gift bags. My grandmother’s name was Fern and to honor her I incorporated ferns into the floral arrangements. She also taught me how to use watercolor when I was little, which I used to create the invitation suite. Talented friends of ours, Matt and Crystal Plakunov of Audubon Woodshop and Peptalk prints, made a ring box and a hand-lettered sign for our ceremony and reception.

Even the music at the wedding was kind of handmade. My Dad played a tune on his Irish wooden flute for the recessional along with an Irish harpist from the area; the same tune that had been played at my parents’ wedding. I identify strongly with my Irish heritage and did Irish step dancing when I was growing up, so I wanted to incorporate that in our ceremony. The wedding was small and intimate - only 20 guests - family and close friends who had a great time spending the weekend together in Maine. Our family and friends are amazing and the whole experience wouldn't have been the same without them. We are thankful they were there with us that day and to have them in our lives. To top off our wedding night, we all rushed to the balcony at the Cliff House when someone discovered that fireworks were going off in the sky!

Congratulations to the newlyweds!
