Weve helped petite brides find dreamy ball gowns and now were tackling the mermaid wedding dresses. Our friend Tracy Burke from New York Bride & Groom helped us explain why petite brides can wear mermaid and trumpet wedding dresses without the dress wearing them.
On a regular day, the petite bride will arrive at New York Bride & Groom with a predetermined opinion of what she has heard about styles that look good and others that dont. She often says the same thing, They say I cannot wear a trumpet gown. Who are they anyway? I have found that petite brides look fantastic in mermaid wedding gowns.
Last week a gorgeous 53 bride brought our showroom to their knees in a Justin Alexander Signature 9740 . Amazingly enough, the dress elongated her torso and added a mirage of length to her appearance. She completed the look by styling the gown with a simple chapel length veil and she looked stunning!
Brides have to remember that during the alterations process the dress becomes their own. Often times we can move the skirt starting point and raise it just a bit higher in order to create length in the torso and legs. We call this alteration a petite hem as it alters the top an and bottom of the skirt. This alteration creates the perfect proportionate balance and the skirt will start at the same point as it would on a bride who is 57 or taller.
Regardless if the bride is petite or not, this is just an example of why all brides must entrust their bridal gown experience to a reputable bridal salon with amazing skilled seamstresses. No matter how beautiful a dress is, and we know that the Justin Alexander team has that part figured out, a brides alterations are the second most important part of her gown.
